Policy Against Hateful Conduct, Discrimination, and Discriminatory Harassment

Gretna Theatre is committed to providing a work environment free from all forms of hateful conduct, discrimination, and discriminatory harassment.  Gretna Theatre will not tolerate any form of hateful conduct, discrimination, or discriminatory harassment based on race, creed, color, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and related medical conditions), age, national origin, ancestry, religion, physical or mental handicap/disability, gender/gender identity, sexual orientation, genetic information, military or veteran status, military service obligation, family care or medical leave status, domestic or sexual violence victim status, or other classification protected by federal, state, or local law.  Gretna Theatre will take all reasonable measures to ensure that no employee is exposed to any form Discriminatory Harassment.

Hateful Conduct

​

Hateful conduct promotes intimidation and hate against people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sex/sexual orientation, gender/gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic.

Gretna Theatre is committed to eliminating all forms of hateful conduct from the workplace. No manager or employee may express or act upon such unacceptable feelings and beliefs in our workplaces, or while conducting our business.  Any employee or manager who commits or condones hateful conduct will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

Sexual Harassment

​

Sexual harassment is defined as any form of unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, preferential or derogatory treatment based on sex or gender, and/or other verbal, graphic, or physical conduct of a sexual nature when: (1) it is made either explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of an individual’s employment; (2) it is used as the basis for employment decisions affecting an individual; or (3) it has the effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual’s work performance, or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment for that employee or for other employees even when they are not parties to the harassment.

 

Sexual harassment may include but is not limited to: (1) touching, patting, or brushing against another person; (2) photos or other sexually oriented material; (3) off-color jokes; (4) sexually demeaning remarks or suggestions; (5) unwelcome and overly familiar terms or remarks; or (6) offensive gestures or teasing.

Other Forms of Discriminatory Harassment

​

Discriminatory harassment based upon an employee’s race, religion, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected trait is strictly prohibited.  These characteristics are personal in nature and are protected under federal, state, and local laws.

 

Certain conduct which may constitute discriminatory harassment includes, but is not limited to, preferential or derogatory treatment based upon a protected characteristic, using insulting or degrading language that would reasonably offend members of a protected class, distributing or displaying any written or graphic materials that would be offensive to members of any protected group, and using racial, religious or ethnic epithets.

 

Individuals Covered Under the Policy

Gretna Theatre is committed to eliminating all forms of discriminatory harassment (sexual and other forms of discriminatory harassment) from the workplace. No manager or employee may express or act upon such unacceptable feelings and beliefs in our workplaces, or while conducting our business.  Any employee or manager who commits or condones discriminatory harassment will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

Hateful conduct, discrimination, and discriminatory harassment are serious violations of Gretna Theatre’s policies. This policy covers all Gretna Theatre employees and interns. Gretna Theater will not tolerate, condone, or allow hateful conduct, discrimination, or discriminatory harassment, whether engaged in by fellow employees, supervisors, managers, customers, vendors, independent contractors, or other non-employees who conduct business with Gretna Theatre. Gretna Theatre encourages reporting of all incidents of hateful conduct, discrimination, or discriminatory harassment, regardless of who the offender may be.
